JoePat Roop, Founder, Chief Investment Strategist

Joseph Patrick Roop, called JoePat by friends and clients alike, began his investment career in 1992 during college as an intern at Merrill Lynch. Subsequently, he worked as an Investment Advisor for a number of major banking institutions and investment firms on Wall Street before leaving this corporate environment.

In the spring of 2009, JoePat founded Belmont Capital Advisors, Inc., a boutique investment firm for which he serves as the Chief Investment Strategist. Since his first exposure to the financial investing arena in 1992, JoePat has been focused on financial planning as well as developing personal relationships with his clients. He takes pride in helping every client create a better financial future, and that the client is satisfied with the relationship with Belmont Capital and with JoePat personally. Beyond pride in a good working relationship, he is more than willing to invest his time to create a personal knowledge of you and of your individual needs and desires. He then does his best to ensure your needs are addressed and that you can look forward to a time of less worry and stress about your life savings.

During the past 20 years, the financial investment market has seen a variety of dramatic changes, changes that JoePat has experienced first-hand. His primary goal is always to optimize and monitor the client’s portfolio, and to alert clients of pertinent tax information and market and investment changes. This wealth of experience is invaluable in providing sound advice and insight not readily available elsewhere. In 2013, JoePat was voted Best Financial Advisor in the Gaston Gazette’s annual Best of Gaston. He has also been the recipient of a number of other awards and similar acknowledgements of his success.

JoePat makes his home in Belmont, NC with his wife Gail and their two children, Henry and Alex.

Lauren Barbee

Lauren Barbee, Marketing Director

Lauren was born and raised in a small town, Locust, NC and graduated in 2010 from Appalachian State University.  Lauren currently resides in Charlotte NC, where over the course of 5 years she has become a leader in her community, providing job opportunities and volunteer opportunities to people surrounding the area.  Lauren is an outdoor enthusiast, loves to travel, passionate about health and fitness and enjoys playing basketball.  Lauren is a self-proclaimed sports addict and enjoys healthy competition.  Lauren’s experience in the Finance industry has provided leadership opportunities, growth opportunities and a solid foundation of knowing, believing and trusting in the business.  Lauren is excited to join the Belmont Capital Advisor family and is excited to be a resource.  Lauren is a self-starter, committed to competent and ethical behavior while representing Belmont Capital Advisors.  Lauren’s mission is to impact the lives of others inside and outside the working space and to introduce people to our mission and surrounding impact we bring to others.  Her hope going forward is that she will continue to grow and mature personally and professionally and manage to keep a positive energy for continued success.

Steve Norton, Financial Advisor & Licensed Insurance Professional 

Steve began his career as a financial advisor in 1999 at A.G. Edwards. After spending five years there, Steve made the decision to move to the independent side of the business where he would have the ability to give unbiased advice without conflict of interest between his recommendations and his parent company. Steve founded Centermark Capital in 2006 and served as its principle until joining Belmont Capital Advisors. There, Steve was able to work closely with accounting firms, insurance benefits providers, mortgage and banking companies, and other specialists to provide holistic financial planning solutions to his clients.  

Steve has been working with families and small businesses for over seventeen years. He helps his clients plan and navigate every step of their financial picture including investment planning, retirement and estate planning, education planning, and insurance needs planning.  

Steve is a three-time recipient of the Charlotte Magazine Five Star Wealth Managers, and has received numerous other industry recognitions. He has also been interviewed and quoted by several local and industry news outlets including Fox Business and Registered Rep Magazine.

Kyle Sikes, Financial Advisor & Licensed Insurance Professional 

For nearly a decade, Kyle has helped clients address their financial concerns and develop strategies by focusing on each individual’s specific needs.

After graduating from Western Carolina University, Kyle began his career as a Banker with BB&T, where he developed a well-rounded understanding of the financial industry. He then transitioned to the world of financial advisement, where he helped manage over $300 million in client assets working with high net worth individuals and local businesses.

Using this experience and knowledge of the industry, Kyle has dedicated his career to delivering the personalized investment, retirement and financial planning services his clients seek for financial freedom.

Kyle is active in the communities in which he serves, where he is currently a member of the Caromont Care Council, as well as an active member of The Next Generation Fund and The Community Foundation of Gaston County. He spends his free time with family and friends and enjoys staying active playing tennis.

Kyle currently holds his Series 7 and Series 66 securities licenses, as well as Life, Health and Variable Annuity licenses through the North Carolina DOI.

Cory Shuford CFP®, Financial Planner & Licensed Insurance Professional

Cory Shuford CFP® began his career in finance and investments in 2009 by interning with Edward Jones in Raleigh, NC. After graduating Cum Laude at North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s degree in business he went to work at LPL Financial.

Cory strives to relieve client’s anxieties related to their finances so that they can focus on the things in life most important to them.

Cory is a Certified Financial Planner professional and believes the financial planning process to be his specialty. He has a Series 7 and Series 66 license, as well as a North Carolina life insurance license.

Huntersville, NC is where Cory and his wife Amanda call home along with their two dogs.  He and his wife love playing sports and both participate in recreational soccer and volleyball leagues around Charlotte. When he’s not playing sports, you can find him watching the NC State Wolfpack and Carolina Panthers.

Shaun Moynihan, Licensed Insurance Professional

Raised in rural New England and educated at Springfield College, Shaun moved to North Carolina over 20 years ago. An industry veteran of 14 years, Shaun approaches every client interaction as an educational opportunity, recognizing that every economic and life situation is unique.

When matching clients with the right financial products and services, he believes that personalized planning is essential. With so much questionable financial information on the internet, finding advice you can trust is imperative.

His advice comes from a place of understanding, and he knows that his clients’ needs come first. Shaun’s professionalism and ability to collaborate with clients are the foundation of every financial plan.

Carla Brooks, Senior Sales Assistant 

Carla Brooks graduated with a BBA degree from Campbell University in 1990 and started her investment career with Merrill Lynch.  For the next 19 years, with hard work, dedication and the desire to make a difference, Carla moved up through Merrill -- starting as a Client Associate, Registered Senior Associate, Client Relationship Manager and Vice President for Charlotte and Cincinnati Ohio complexes.  

In 2009, Carla took a position as Operations Director for Concentra Medical Center where she spent the next 4 years.

June 2014, Carla was offered a position in Operations for Belmont Capital Advisors where she now feels she can make the difference she was looking for.  She was certified in Series 7, 66, 9 & 10.

Carla calls Belmont, NC home with her 2 children, Jacob 12 and Ashlee 20 who is a Junior at East Carolina University.  She loves to sing, travel and get lost in a good book.

Kim Lail, Client Relations Specialist

Kim Lail has been with Belmont Capital Advisors since 2010 and is their Customer Service & Client Specialist.

When you call the office to schedule an appointment with any of the advisors, Kim is the first voice you hear. She has an amazing ability to remember most of the clients' names and their family members. It is not unusual to hear her chatting with a client and asking, how's that new grandchild, or,  how did Mary do with her knee surgery. All of our clients are like family to her, and you can be sure you will be directed to the advisor that will best fit your needs.

Kim also manages all the upcoming workshops and events for each advisor.

Kim lives in Belmont with her husband of 36 years -- Charlie.  They have 2 children, Misty and Joseph, and one granddaughter Rose who is the love of their life.  She has been a 30-year active member of South Point Baptist Church. Kim says, “when I am not at the best job a girl could ask for, I love the time spent with my family.”

Teresa Williams, Office Manager

Teresa comes to Belmont Capital Advisors with a wealth of experience in customer service and office management, which she received first at a printing firm and then later at a plastics manufacturing firm.

Teresa began her investment career with Edward Jones in Kings Mountain, as Branch Office Administrator and has continued in the industry for the last 21 years.

 A native of Kings Mountain, Teresa is a single mother of 1 son, Brent. She enjoys music, sings in the church choir, and is the director of the handbell choirs. She also on the board of directors of the Joy Performance Center – Kings Mountain Little Theatre, where she has participated in many productions over the last 20 years.
