Retirement Planning

Anticipating Required Minimum Distributions

Beginning at age 70 ½, the IRS requires individuals to take minimum payments called required minimum distributions, or RMDs — from their retirement savings accounts, whether they need the income or not. At Belmont Capital Advisors, our team works closely with baby boomers to plan for RMDs, as they can have adverse implications as they relate to:

  • Adjusted gross income and higher tax brackets.
  • Taxation of benefits (Social Security, Medicare, etc.).
  • Inheritance for children and/or grandchildren.

Optimizing Social Security

In an age when the government is providing less support than ever to Social Security recipients, Belmont Capital Advisors is here to help you make the right choices when it comes to your future.

Do you know how to maximize your Social Security benefits?

Our founder, JoePat Roop, is proudly NSSA (National Social Security Advisors) certified. That means he is situated to help you make more informed decisions regarding your Social Security options.

If you can’t answer the following questions, you may want to meet with a professional today:

  • Are the “Restricted Application” and “File and Suspend” options still available?
  • How much can I earn while receiving Social Security benefits?
  • What is the average benefit amount?
  • Will my spouse be affected if I receive benefits early?

Are you approaching retirement or transitioning between companies?

Much of our clientele come from major corporations throughout North Carolina, including Duke Energy, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Time Warner, due in large part to our extensive knowledge and familiarity with their current plans and buyout packages.

There are many components in a complete retirement plan, and that is why it’s essential to work with a full-service firm that analyzes the following areas to make sure you’re making the best decision for your financial future:

  • Exploring 401(k) and Roth conversions for your optimal benefit.
  • Reviewing options to leverage Single versus Joint payouts.
  • Factoring in Social Security at the time of buyout or election.
  • Having a tax strategy in place at the time of buyout or election that helps you avoid financial harm down the road.
  • Having access to many different financial platforms and instruments – be wary of being limited to proprietary firms or funds.
  • Analyzing the lump sum option for cumulative long-term growth and control of the asset(s).

Pension Plans

Part of Belmont Capital Advisor’s retirement planning includes pension plans. Do you know the best way to handle your pension so there are no hiccups throughout your entire retirement? Our income planners can design your pension plan to help ensure the worst never happens and your best days are ahead.
